Empowering adolescent girls and young women with skills to unlock their potential and improve economic status through comprehensive training programs.

Project Overview

Improve 100 is a project aimed at empowering adolescent girls and young women aged 16-30 with necessary skills which will allow them to explore their potentials and improve their economic status.

The project creates an environment where they can have a voice in economic, political and cultural spheres by:

  • Providing education and skills development
  • Connecting participants with mentors
  • Building communication skills
  • Creating decision-making opportunities
  • Providing leadership space in Iringa region, Tanzania

Programs include training in mindset growth, sexual reproductive health, nutrition, entrepreneurship, and personal financial management through Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA).

The Improve 100 Project aims to empower adolescent girls and young women aged 16-30 with the necessary skills to explore their potential and improve their economic status through:

  • Community support networks

Our mission is to create sustainable change by addressing both immediate needs and long-term development goals for young women in Tanzania.

Implementation Strategy

The project is implemented in phases (cohorts):

  • Cohort 1 & 2: Implemented in Iringa Municipal and Iringa District Council reaching 500 adolescent girls and women across five wards (Gangilonga, Mkwawa, Kihesa, Kwakilosa, and Mwangata)
  • Cohort 3: Implemented to 200 adolescent girls and young women at Mseke Ward in Iringa DC

Current training sessions

Currently, Afyaplus in collaboration with local partners is empowering 200 adolescent girls and young women with essential skills in:

  • Mindset growth and personal development
  • Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights
  • Nutrition and wellness education
  • Entrepreneurship and business skills
  • Personal Finance Management through VSLAs
  • Digital financial management using M-KOBA platform

This has resulted in the formation of three sustainable groups: Upendo, Hekima, and Furaha, which continue to support members' economic growth.
